SoundLAB has received critical acclaim as a trailblazing new music ensemble, partnering with major Philadelphia institutions and artistic partners, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, American Philosophical Society, American Composers Forum, and the Barnes Foundation. 2020 collaborations include partnerships across Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Oregon.

VocaliD is a Boston-based AI firm that creates custom synthetic voices using machine learning algorithms for people who suffer from catastrophic vocal loss.

In partnership with Drexel University’s ExCITe Center, the Curtis Institute, the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, Willamette University, and Hub New Music, SoundLAB and VocaliD will push limits of assistive technologies in order to develop digital solutions that create in sound the semantic depth and range of expression inherent in the voice. The three movements of a newly commissioned work, the other side of silence, will premiere in separate performances, utilizing this emerging technology to confront these goals.
